Outdoor dining at Princesshay
With the nation breathing a collective sigh of relief that outdoor dining is back on the cards from April 12th, we’re bringing you a round-up of all the best alfresco options here at Princesshay. Outside seating is likely to get booked up quickly, so please contact the restaurants in advance to check that they have capacity.
But, if you’re not able to secure yourself a seat at one of our outdoor eateries, worry not, because we will also be putting artificial grass down in The Square and reinstating our picnic benches and bin facilities – so grab a takeout and find a spot in the sunshine. We can’t wait to see you!
Please check the latest government guidelines before you visit.
Picture yourself enjoying the sunshine while sipping on a Salcombe gin cocktail over a light lunch at Lloyd’s Lounge.
With the Cathedral in view from its pretty courtyard alfresco dining area, with seating for up to 42 guests, this is the perfect pick for a long-awaited catch up with your nearest and dearest. You can expect a warm welcome at Lloyd’s Lounge, plus fantastic food and service that is second to none.
A hidden gem, Coffee#1 Exeter is right opposite the famous Roman Wall that runs through our city. So, grab one of their tables by the ancient wall, soak in the atmosphere and enjoy your favourite coffee.
While you’re there, why not try Coffee#1’s seasonal espresso? The Brazilian roast is dark and nutty with sweet caramel flavours – it’s guaranteed to elevate your latte to the next level. Simply ask for the Brazilian espresso with your next order.
How much have you missed hearty weekend brunches at Coal Kitchen? We know we have! The key to a phenomenal start to a weekend is lazy brunch with your best friends at your favourite Exeter eatery.
From a sourdough toastie with Gloucestershire ham and cheddar to a full vegan, topped off (of course) with a Bloody Mary, brunch at Coal Kitchen is sure to feature heavily in all our weekend plans for the summer.
Coal Kitchen reopens on April 14th. They’re taking reservations, so book your table now!
The Costa cafe here at Princesshay serves a wide range of coffees, as well as lunches, cakes and snacks. With plenty of outside seating, it’s the ideal spot for a midday nibble or caffeine boost or even for catching up on some work!
This spring you’ll also find some new additions on the menu, like the yummy toffee spiced latte and luxurious Ruby Frostino, plus vegan treats and Belgian chocolate flapjacks – the perfect accompaniment to an afternoon natter with a friend.
At wagamama there is an extensive vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu, as well as a kids’ menu for little noodlers. Their ingredients are always cooked fresh and served fresh – so there’s no wonder their motto is ‘from bowl to soul!’ You’ll find seating for up to 50 diners outside in waga’s lovely garden, so grab yourself a table – it’s first come, first served, so be quick!
For a lighter lunch idea, why not try one of waga’s famous hirata buns? Choose from Korean barbeque beef, pork belly with panko apple and sriracha or the new vegan mushroom and aubergine bun – yum!
For the finest food, delivered with a personal service and attention to detail, head to Chandos Deli’s Princesshay branch.

Famous for their fresh, buttermilk-marinated, chicken tenders, sandwiches, hot wings and (of course) 14 house sauces, at Slim Chickens there really is something for everyone. There’s seating for up to 50 guests at Slims, but tables can’t be booked in advance, so make sure you get there in plenty of time if you want to bag yourself a space. Oh, and try the new popcorn shake, too – it’s perfect for supping on in the sunshine!
Slim Chickens are also running a re-opening promotion of 10 tenders and two Camden Hells lagers for £14.45, plus, download the Slim Chickens UK app and you’ll get three free chicken tenders on your first visit!
Takeout and enjoy the sunshine… don’t forget to try our picnic area in The Square!
Nando’s at Princesshay has a small outdoor area for diners, but if you’re not lucky enough to get a table, why not order your meal for takeout instead? In fact, we think a PERi-PERi picnic in the park sounds pretty special! Simply order for click and collect, roll out the blanket and invite a few friends to join you!
And of course, if all else fails you can always order from Deliveroo for home delivery!
When the sun’s out there’s only one thing we need to make our shopping trip that extra bit special – a fancy coffee from Starbucks.
You won’t be able to sit in at the cafe just yet, but if you’re out and about make sure you pop in to brighten your day with a takeout of your favourite brew. Ours is a smooth Starbucks Blonde® Roast iced latte with a dash of vanilla, please!
We know, we know… you’re missing the conveyor belt, right? Us too! But, while you wait patiently for indoor dining to reopen, remember that Yo! is still available for delivery, takeaway and click and collect.
Order now and the expert chefs at Yo! will whip up your favourites, for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. And, remember to try the new menu additions, too – these inari tacos are really too good to miss!
