Princesshay always strives to better meet the needs of our disabled customers. We are actively aware that not all disabilities are visible.

We are pleased to be supporting Purple Tuesday on 3rd November, committing to continually improving our accessibility and experience for all.

Purple Tuesday has been developed by disability organisation Purple; which works with businesses to improve the customer experience for disabled people.

At Princesshay we pride ourselves on our accessibility. Last year we created an accessibility guide and we are the only city centre facility to provide a changing places toilet.

This year to celebrate Purple Tuesday and making things accessible to all we are pleased to support Hidden Disabilities.

A hidden disability is a disability that may not be immediately obvious.

Hidden disabilities don’t have physical signs and include learning difficulties, mental health as well as mobility, speech, visual or hearing impairments. They can also include asthma, COPD, and other lung conditions as well as chronic illnesses such as renal failure, diabetes, and sleep disorders when those diseases significantly impact day-to-day life.

Living with these conditions can make daily life more demanding for many people. They affect each person in different ways and can be painful, exhausting, and isolating. Without visible evidence of the hidden disability, it is frequently difficult for others to acknowledge the challenges faced and as a consequence, sympathy and understanding can often be in short supply.

Those who have a Hidden Disability may want or choose to where the Hidden Disability Sunflower to highlight to others they have a disability and may need help.

Princesshay have a Hidden Disability pack and anyone who feels they need and would like to wear a Hidden Disability Sunflower Lanyard can pick one up from Exeter Shopmobility in Princeshay once reopen after lockdown.
