Key trends for spring

A new season is upon us, which can only mean one thing… it’s time to update your wardrobe! If you’re in need of a fashion refresh but you don’t know where to start, we’re here to help with a handy guide to this season’s key trends.

Pastel power!

Spring is synonymous with pastel tones, but what we really love about this season’s trend is the way those sweet ice-cream shades are blended together. After all, why have vanilla when you can have a Neapolitan? For an instant uplifting hit of spring, add this blue abstract knitted bomber to your wardrobe – available from Oliver Bonas for £75.

White on white

The spring catwalks were full of chic all-white looks, with tailoring featuring prominently. It’s an easy style to master, with a clean and fresh ease that will carry through to the summer. Start with a blouse, and layer up neutral shades, or invest in white or cream trousers and a blazer. Reiss has a wide range that is just perfect for nailing this trend.

Breton stripes

A spring staple for all the family, Breton stripes are a classic look that you can return to year after year. Worn on a cardigan, dress, a simple striped tee, or just a pair of socks, Breton stripes are an easy way to capture those holiday vibes and shake off the winter blues. This children’s Star Breton top is from the new Crayola collection at FatFace and is available for £14.

Citrus brights

Ok, so there’s a good chance that the spring months will bring their fair share of showers with them, but zesty yellows and fiery bright oranges are very much on trend this season, so dress for the weather you want, we say – not the weather you get! We particularly love this sunny Ella polka dot dress from Joules

The height of fashion

We’re giddy with excitement, because this season sees the return of everyone’s favourite seventies staple – the platform shoe. Whether you’re looking for boots, sandals, loafers or Mary Janes, this spring you’ll want to go chunky. For a vast range of platforms, check out the new footwear collection at Zara. They’re big, they’re bold, they’re bright and we love them!

Down on the prairie

Think tiered dresses, ditsy prints, high necks and oh-so-flattering floaty skirts – the prairie look is very much in this spring, and we’re absolutely loving it! This jersey midi dress from Monsoon is a fun play on the look with a mix of animal-prints in warm shades of amber and red. Available in store for £70.

Check, mate…

You might have noticed that checks and gingham prints are everywhere this season, and rightly so – they’re a classic springtime pattern. But, for an elevated menswear look, we love this tan and white long sleeved shirt paired with a light grey wool-blend suit (both from Next). It’s the perfect way to soften up your office wardrobe for the warmer days ahead, while still looking dashingly dapper.

Sheer drama

Wafty light layers are hot on the catwalk and the high street this spring – it’s all about sheer fabrics. Experiment with a sheer sleeve, or try a print that’s a little more opaque. Find sheer blouses in an amazing array of colours at Zara, printed longline shirts at Next and this stunning Elsie Kuroyuri Kimono (£139) at AllSaints.
